Beliefs

God and Salvation

We are first and foremost a congregation of sinners who have found grace and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Our focus, then, is on the God of mercy who restores relationships with those who have rebelled against him by breaking his commands (Exodus 34:5-7). We believe that God does this through the work of Jesus Christ who is God become man (Romans 8:1-4). He lived a perfect life, he died a cursed death in our place, and he rose again from the dead—proof that his sacrifice was accepted and that death itself had been conquered. We believe in salvation by grace alone (we do not contribute one thing to our salvation), through faith alone (we receive salvation by trusting what Jesus has done for us and resting on his perfect work), in Christ alone (there is no other who is able to save us and Jesus will not accept help from any person; Acts 4:12). 

The Bible

We believe that the Bible alone (consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) is authoritative in the Christian's life to explain the way of salvation and how we are to live in humble gratitude for that salvation (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21). As a Reformed Church, we believe that the historic Protestant creeds and catechisms (Westminster Confession of Faith, Larger and Shorter Catechisms as well as the Heidelberg Catechism) are faithful summaries of biblical teaching. We also hold to the historic creeds of the Christian church such as the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed. 

The Church

We believe the church is the household of God (1 Timothy 3:15), where he ministers to his people through the officers in the church (Ephesians 4:11-14) and the mutual care and edification of the believers (Titus 2:1-8). We believe it is not only imperative that every person who calls himself a Christian finds a local congregation to be a part of, but also that he or she actively serves that congregation with the gifts given by God (Romans 12:1-11; 1 Peter 4:10).

How God Feeds Us

We believe that God's primary means of feeding and caring for his people (John 21:15-17) is through the ministries of the preached word (Deuteronomy 8:3; Romans 10:13-17) and the administration of the sacraments (1 Corinthians 10:16). To that end we labor diligently to understand and live according to God's word (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:15). We also take seriously God's commands to be baptized (Matthew 28:18-20) and to partake of the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:17-26).
