The Song of the Redeemed (Psalm 96)

THE SONG OF THE REDEEMED (PSALM 96)

Having invited all people to come to him for redemption, God calls those who come to sing a song about his salvation (and tell others to come as well).

  • A Song of Victory for the King (vv. 1-6, 10-13)

  • An Invitation for the Nations (vv. 7-9; cf. Genesis 9:26-27; 18:18; 22:18; 26:4)

  • A Song for Us to Sing to the Lamb (Revelation 5:6-14; cf. 14:1-5; Matthew 28:18-20)

Discussion Starters

Monday—Why do you think the issues of identity, community, and meaning are so important to us? Where is the only place they can be truly answered?

Tuesday—Why is it important to remember that God reigns above all gods and that he will judge the world in equity? Why does this need to proclaimed?

Wednesday—What is a new song? What does it mean to sing a new song? Do you ever do it?

Thursday—Why shouldn’t it be a surprise that, as Israel was setting up the tabernacle, God was calling the Gentiles to come? (Look at Genesis 9:26-27; 18:18; 22:18; 26:4) How does that help us understand God’s heart for evangelism?

Friday—Read Revelation 5:9-10. Why is Jesus worthy of our praise? How is singing about what Jesus has done an act of evangelism?
