Love and Abide (1 John 2:28-3:10)

Love is an unmistakable family trait—one that all God’s children have.

  • Two Families (2:28-29; 3:8-10)

  • Shrinking back in Shame? (2:28 - 3:8)

  • Love and Abide (2:28; 3:10)

Discussion Starters

Monday—What is shame? Have you experienced shame? What did it make you want to do?

Tuesday—What two families can the world be divided into? (2:28-29; 3:8-10; Matthew 25:31-46) Is this an overly simplistic way to view the world? Why or why not?

Wednesday—Why is adoption another term for salvation? What drives God to adopt us as his children? (3:1; Ephesians 1:5) What does that tell you about who God is?

Thursday—Is this passage saying that Christians never sin? What particular sin does John have in mind that should not define God’s children? (3:10)

Friday—How can you grow in love and fight anger, bitterness, and hate in your heart? (2:28) What does it mean to “abide in him”? What are some things you can do to help you abide in him?
