51 — Risky Business

RISKY BUSINESS (LUKE 19:11-28)

Following Jesus doesn’t mean safety, but taking risks for his sake.

  1. THE KINGDOM? (V. 11; 18:31-34)

    1. GREAT EXPECTATIONS (V. 11)

    2. THE COMING REALITY (LUKE 18:31-34)

  2. TYRANT OR SERVANT?

    1. FOLLOWING JESUS IS ABOUT POWER (VV. 13-15, 20-28)

    2. FOLLOWING JESUS IS ABOUT SERVICE (VV. 13, 15-19)

    3. AN INVITATION TO RISK

Discussion Starters

Monday—What does it mean “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for”? Where are you tempted to seek safety that God is calling you out of? What are we actually seeking when we try to manage all risk in our lives?

Tuesday—What were the disciples expectations as they approached Jerusalem? What what actually awaited them? Why were their expectation so skewed?

Wednesday—What did the wicked servant believe about his master? How did that shape how he lived in his master’s absence? How did his assumptions come back to haunt him?

Thursday—What did the faithful servants believe about their master? How did that shape how they lived in their master’s absence? How did those assumptions come back to bless them?

Friday—What are the little things God is calling you to faithfulness in today? How are those shaping you for bigger things tomorrow?
