Thirsting (Psalm 42-43)

THIRSTING

(PSALMS 42-43 & JOHN 1:9–14; 19:28-30)

In exile, God’s people can call out to the God who comes to their rescue and comforts them as they await re-entering his house and worshipping before his face.

  • Thirsting for God (Psalm 42:1-4)

  • Behind Enemy Lines (Psalm 42:6-11)

  • The Rescue Mission (Psalm 43:1-5)

Discussion Starters

Monday—Have you ever been really, really thirsty? What was it like? Were you able to think of anything else?

Tuesday—Have you ever felt like God was a million miles away? What is that like? What are you tempted to believe at times like that?

Wednesday—What is exile? In what way is our current situation in this life similar to Israel in Egypt, Assyria or Babylon?

Thursday—What do truth and light represent? What is the psalmist asking for in Psalm 43:3? How did God ultimately come to rescue us?

Friday—Why is it important that this psalm is for the choirmaster? What does that tell us about how it is to be used?
