Born (Again) to Love (1 John 5:1-5 | Matthew 22:34-40)

Because God is love, his children must love each other and even those hate them.

  • Born of God… (vv. 1-3)

  • …to Love the Church (vv. 1-3)

  • …to Love the World (vv. 1, 4-5)

Discussion Starters

Monday—What does it mean to be “born of God”? What are some things that are true of all who are born of God? (vv. 1-3)

Tuesday—What does it mean that all who love the Father love his children? (v. 2) How does love for God call us to view his church?

Wednesday—Why is there so much division in the church? Is all division bad? What are some valid in invalid reasons for division?

Thursday—Why does John choose “overcome” rather than “conquer” the world in verse 4? (cf. Romans 12:21) What does it mean to overcome the world?

Friday—Where is God calling you to grow in what it means to love his people and love the world? What do you need to confess? What do you need to forgive?
