Discussion Starters

  1. Monday—What is an “imposter”? (v. 7) Is John focussed on false teaching outside the church or inside? What motivates false teachers?

  2. Tuesday—What does it mean to shut the doors against false teachers? How can leaders do that?

  3. Wednesday—Is it unloving to put false teachers out of the church? Why or why not? What happens to the church if leaders do not guard against false teachers?

  4. Thursday—Why is false teaching attractive? What do false teachers promise? What does it mean to watch yourself? (v. 8)

  5. Friday—What are the unique challenges that that belong to our modern age when it comes to false teaching? Where does the Lord call you to look for guidance and direction? Why?
